This election is very important to the future of Prescott and it is critical to have good candidate options on the ballot in order to give citizens a true choice. With the replacement process for council seat vacancy, the shortened election season and limitations of COVID, the time for candidates to collect signatures for their nominating petitions is shortened and challenging– especially for those with limited or no previous political experience.
The final day to submit petitions to get on the ballot is April 5th; they have one month to collect at least 800 and ideally 1,200 signatures. We have been advised of three COVID-conscious events to help candidates collect signatures:
- Petition signing events will occur on:
- Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4p on the SE corner of the Courthouse Square – March 13-14 and 20-21.
- Saturday, March 13th there will be an additional signing event with a drive-thru option from 1-4 PM at the Adult Center of Prescott at 1280 E. Rosser Street. Additionally, there will be a “pick-up point” at this location for those interested in taking petition sheets to circulate among their own neighborhoods. You must be a resident of the City of Prescott and a registered voter.
- You can sign three petitions for city council candidates and one for mayor.
Two candidates for council, Eric Moore (R) and Brandon Montoya (Ind) are seeking your signature on their petitions. Time is of the essence in ensuring that this year’s conditions do not create inequitable barriers for potential candidates, especially those who are still building rapport with the public and learning the ins and outs of the electoral process. We want our members to have the opportunity to truly evaluate and elect whoever they feel are the right people to council, and we believe that this will have a significant impact on the outcome of many issues we all feel are important.
Eric Moore’s petitions are at the Bird Barn, along with Brandon Montoya’s.
If you want to assist in getting petition signatures for Brandon Montoya, please contact Lori Dekker, Campaign Manager, at email@example.com.
