MLK National Day of Service Events – Promoting Love in Action
Annual Prescott Martin Luther King Peace & Justice March and Celebration
Monday, January 15, 2024
The Prescott Martin Luther King Jr. Peace & Justice Committee is partnering with community organizations to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy of civil rights and social justice. The theme this year is Love in Action, reflecting Dr. King’s call for all of us to put words of love and affirmation into action in our lives.
Gather for the march at the Prescott College Welcome Center on the corner of Grove & Western Streets between 9:30 and 10:00 am. Those who wish to attend the celebration program should arrive at Prescott United Methodist Church by 11:00 am. The program will include a collection of dynamic speakers, music, and festivities honoring Dr. King.
The celebration program includes poetry composed and read by local teens. Members of the Launch Pad Teen Center plan MLK-related activities for younger audience members in a separate room. Launch Pad teens will also provide the audience with a report on their Better Together campaign, which promotes effective discussion to address division in the Prescott area. Attendees can also sign up for community service projects organized by Arizona Serve AmeriCorps.
Following the celebration, two break-out sessions will be offered to discuss MLK’s legacy…
