Everyone – I received the email below from Deb Howard, team lead for AZ Indivisible Redistricting. Please read.
If you want to attend the Tuesday evening meeting, please register and let me know that you’ll be attending.
Redistricting Decision-Making Meetings meetings to finalize map boundaries for the Congressional and Legislative districts are set for Dec. 6, 9, 13, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21 and 22, 2021. The five-member Commission will have nine days of deliberation on the map redrawing taking into consideration the six criteria outlined in the Arizona Constitution Arizona proposition 106. Over 2,000 public comments have been received online, in person, virtually and emailed; in addition 205 published maps and plans have been submitted through the mapping tool – this number does not include maps on paper submitted to the Commissioners. Times and location(s) for the final decision-making meetings can be found on the following link: final decision meetings. Public comment can be submitted during each meeting. Go to the agenda listed for that link.
The Dec. 3 IRC Newsletter is attached.
Onward!

From Deb Howard:
Hi Friends – It’s True – three weeks from now we are likely to KNOW what our new political districts will look like. For the next decade. Scary, I know.
It is the time to double-down and commit to engaging up to the very, very end. We have done so much and made such an impact since last December when we began! This is no time to let up.
To that end — there are a few links here – the very first to talking points to use to prompt ideas for commenting during the first of the last AIRC map drawing meetings. The AIRC will begin revisiting district boundaries tomorrow at 9:00 am. I have also attached a link to a Salon article that was published over the weekend. It’s ugly – but we knew most if it already. It just puts the most recent skullduggery in an even more harsh light – if that is even possible.
And I’ve included links to the formal letters each party submitted to the AIRC during the Thursday meeting. It will surprise exactly no one that the Republican response has zero internal consistency. They argue against competitiveness (it makes their job harder!) and then criticize districts that were made less competitive. Go figure.
And – if you have not done so already – stop right now and register for the Monthly meeting. Our special guest will be 2011 AIRC Chairwoman Colleen Mathis. Our conversation will focus on what to expect in these last three weeks and tips on how to be most effective. Here’s the link to register: https://www.mobilize.us/azcd8indivisible/event/373337/
Let me know what else you might need. Truly – email or call. Hope to see everyone on Tuesday evening. Cheers!
