From friend Diane McQueen:
Hello all, I’m certain many of you have already heard but Rita Day passed away suddenly last week. She had recently been diagnosed with cancer but this sudden passing took us all by surprise. Rita was dedicated to making our community, this state and country a better place for everyone. She was deeply involved with Prescott Indivisible and the Yavapai Democratic Party, happily taking on many tasks (except phone banking – she and I shared our hate of phone banking :).
I first met Rita during the first Outlaw Dirty Money campaign back in 2018. We became friends. Rita single handedly gathered 1,300 during all the campaigns. Nothing stopped her. Rita would take 5 petitions and bring them all back filled up and then she’d take another five, and another five, etc. I couldn’t get close to that.
But most of all, Rita was just a fun person to be around. She had a great laugh and always had a smile on her face. She had a very compassionate heart. Rita loved us all and we loved her right back. I also got to know her husband Eric during this time and truly admired his dedication to Rita.
As you can imagine, Eric is going through an emotionally tough time right now and doing the best he can. I’ve spoken with him a couple of times this past week. At this point he has not made any plans for a get together to honor Rita but I told him the community here is ready to help when he’s ready to do something.
If you have any questions or just need someone to talk to please let me know. Like Rita, you are all more than just volunteers – you are all my friends and I appreciate every one of you.
