Prescott Peacebuilders announces the International Day of Peace, observed around the world on September 21st. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. Other events supporting this effort include:
- September 6th at 5 PM at Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation, we will show the film Disturbing the Peace. This film follows former enemy combatants-Israeli soldiers from elite units and Palestinian fighters, many of whom served years in prison-who have joined together to challenge the status quo and say “enough”.
- September 21st, we will join with people around the world in spirit to celebrate peace. Please meet at the front steps of the Prescott courthouse plaza on the Gurley side. Bring long scarves if you have them which will connect us, battery candles, and PEACEFUL signs. This is always a special event with music, speakers, and a candlelit moment of silence for peace.
- September 29th from 5-7 PM in the Founder’s Room of the Prescott Library will be a Speaker Forum with three distinguished speakers from our community. Manuel R. Lucero IV is the Director for the Museum of Indigenous People. Ernesto Todd Mireles, MSW, PhD is the Coordinator for the Frantz Fanon Community Strategy Center at Prescott College. Reverend Anthony Mtuaswa Johnson is the minister at the Sedona Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. They will each share their perspectives about the UN International Day of Peace theme:
End Racism. Build Peace.
