For the last few months, Prescott Indivisible has hosted “Support Public Libraries” days of action where members were encouraged to visit their local libraries and thank librarians for their ongoing dedication to free and open access to information. This was in response to attempts by far-right groups to ban books that acknowledge and celebrate the experiences of LGBTQ+ communities, Black history, and social justice movements.

Our efforts were very successful. Members visited local libraries individually and organized groups visited Prescott, Prescott Valley, and Chino Valley libraries, standing outside with signs, engaging with supportive patrons, and delighting the librarians with treats and appreciation.

Starting in 2024, we will be changing our group library visits to quarterly. Watch the newsletter and FB page for our next foray into the world of books. And don’t forget, you can always stop by your local library and share words of support and maybe some cookies too.
