VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ASAP

NAVAJO POWER – DAY OF ACTION
WHO: You and a couple of friends, neighbors, loved ones!
WHAT: You will help collect signatures for AZ Fair Elections, HealthCare Rising and Stop Dark Money petitions
WHEN: Friday, May 27; 9am – 4pm (but volunteers can work just part of the day, if needed)
WHERE: Navajo Nation chapter houses in Coconino, Navajo and Apache counties, located as close to you as possible

WHY:

  • After turning out in record numbers and helping to determine the U.S. President and control of the U.S. Senate, Natives in Arizona are under attack with many right-wing attempts to deny them the right to vote
  • Using Arizona’s constitutional provision that allows citizens to propose new laws, petitions are being circulated to place a new election law on the November ballot which would protect the right of Native Americans to vote; it requires 243,000 signatures by July 7
  • Navajo voters should have an opportunity to stand up for their rights by signing the petitions
  • Having volunteers there will help ensure that the signers use their physical addresses, not PO Boxes, to make sure their signatures are counted

Each chapter house is planning different events around the day, including special guests.  Rep. Tom O’Halloran has already agreed to be at SIX chapter houses! They will advertise heavily on the radio, so attendance should be good.
